Bourdon Tube

Bourdon tube is also an elastic element type pressure sensor. It is relatively cheap and common used for measurement of gauge pressure in both liquid and gas Fluids.

There are three types of Bourdon tube;

a.       C-type
b.      Helical type
c.       Spiral type

Working

The one open end of bourdon tube is fixed and the other close end is free for movement. Pressure applied on open end of bourdon tube and this is some displacement on closed end of bourdon tube. This displacement is measured by using displacement transducer like LVDT, Potentiometer and Capacitive.

Types

C-type

C-type bourdon tubes are available for measuring pressure round about 6000bar. The maximum displacement travel of c-type is 4 mm.

Only bourdon tubes have accuracy limits when measuring gaseous Pressure.
